I painted this scene of clouds being swept in onto the west coast by an advancing weather front-harbingers of the coming storm. The sea is beginning to get choppy but hasn’t yet developed into rolling waves.
I painted this scene with a palette knife and really enjoyed the energy and unpredictable shapes this technique achieved. It captured the dramatic mood I wanted to achieve.
I used acrylic paint for this painting because its quick drying enabled me to build up layers quickly, create broken colour over the entire surface and generate the sparkle that characterizes these types of days.
