"The Dome" was created from the Balboa Reflecting Pools in San Diego California. A studio creation from my own photo reference.I love the play of light and shadow on the flowers, and the "lost and found" edges of the water and the green lily pads. I am considered an "impressionist"...and I enjoy creating the Most with the LEAST! If I can create an affect with one brush loaded with paint, I have learned how to leave it, and let it stand on it's own...rather then messing with the purity of the stroke. Hopefully having the right color and right value and right shape, so my message gets delivered!!
Also I was quite honored when one of my patrons wrote a poem about this painting, here Gina's poem:
Beneath the pond there lies a dome,
Where water nymphs have made their home,
For I have seen reflections there
Of lovely maids with flowing hair;
And when the lily pads all stir,
I wonder what may next occur.
So then I sit and wait for hours
To see a face among the flowers.
But, they never seem to roam
Far from the safety of their dome.
So I must question in frustration,
Was it but my imagination?
Were there but fishes swimming by
Midst cloud reflections from the sky?
