Beyond Words
I started and finished this painting about 3 week apart. Why, you may ask. I had started this piece, and received a call that my Father was dying, so I left my home, and flew to Virginia. Knowing he would never fully recover, we took him off life support, and brought him home. He could not last more than 7 days without water, and I sat with him literally 24-7, and had several sweet experiences during that time: once kissing him on the forehead as I left the room, in his coma, he puckered his lips to kiss me back! Thus Dad and I "spoke beyond words"...thank goodness, I was "present" to his wisdom! So, should you ever be with someone in a coma, that leads to their death, talk to them, share with them...THEY CAN HEAR YOU!!! Hope you can also “hear” what they share with you!
When I got home after his burial, as I finished this painting, I came to an understanding: that BOTH figures represented my Dad on this sacred journey! The figure in front represented Dad's BODY, unable to see us any longer! The figure looking right at you, under a red umbrella, which I understand in the Orient, red represents the SOUL!
This painting titled: "Beyond Words" is 28x22 oil on linen,
and hangs over my bed, so Dad can keep an eye out for me!.
