STRINGS is a colour pencil drawing about the notion that we are the makers of our own destiny, that free will is omnipresent. In our capitalist western society, certain social norms and responsibilities are thrust upon us from birth, perhaps even subconsciously and against our consent. This piece is a visual representation of what is prone to becoming homogenized in the conveyor belt lifestyles we live. Each string is attached to a body part that leads either up or down, symbolising their function in perceived moral alignment.
The piece is built up with layers of black and walnut brown on a cream coloured sheet of textured drawing paper before finishing off with a heavy burnish of ivories and an assortment of warm greys to create a gloomy noir-esque ambience.
