Just last week I laid my painting gloves down on the rock near the hellebores...I knew it was a painting. I painted it from direct observation: plein air over the course of two days. I was worried the hellebores would wilt because the temperatures dropped while I was painting and I could see the petals becoming translucent...snow was in the forecast. My painting gloves are a metaphor for my hands. This is a 'Wisconsin winter is coming" hopeful painting. I loved making it.
