Times Between

Balboa Park in San Diego has this wonderful water Lily Pond, that is usually filled with gorgeous water lilies, as this painting shows. For this larger size, it was created in the studio. With many years of plein air painting, I was able to capture the spontaneous feeling of moving water, as the breeze rippled across the pond, changing the pads ever so gently. Being in the latter part of the day, dropping the foreground into shadow, as the reflections of buildings along the back, still captured the late afternoon sun, creating a great range of energy!
