On a cold day in late Autumn, I was painting with Rembrandt pastels en plein air in St. Patrick's County Park, Indiana, when the sky behind my subject suddenly turned dark and stormy and the low sun lighted the scene dramatically from the left. I quickly changed the mood of the painting and headed for the car before the rain began.
